Although the state of NJ is opening up and summer camps will be allowed to run, we at The Fashion Design Center of South Jersey are taking every precaution to stay safe and to keep you safe! And right now that means holding summer camp VIRTUALLY!
In Week 1 of Fashion Design Camp the focus is on home decor! You will learn textile design techniques to make your own versions of Mudcloth (a handcrafted fabric from Mali, Africa) and Shibori (a Japanese fabric dyeing technique). The techniques I will teach are faux methods or short-cuts and not the labor-intensive centuries-old techniques but give you a similar aesthetic.
The projects are as follows:
Mudcloth Napkins, Shibori Throw Pillow, and African Wax Print Photo Frame.
The kit contains: 3 yds cotton fabric, blue tie-dye, black dye, glue, wood frame, sponge, Modge Podge, fusible hem tape, pillow form, sewing kit and instructions for each project.
On the first day of camp, 7/6/2020, we will meet via Zoom to discuss the projects and to answer any questions and then you're on your own to create all week. On Friday, 7/10/2020 we will meet again via Zoom for a fun session of Show & Tell where you'll show off your finished work and give constructive critiques to your classmates' work.
This is appropriate for ages 7 and up with adult supervision. Adults are permitted to purchase the kit and participate in "camp" BUT will be in a separate zoom call from the young children.
Must purchase in time to receive the kit and show up for the call on Monday, 7/6. Therefore no orders will be allowed after 7/1.
No machine sewing necessary, although it is permitted if you know how. Must know how to hand-sew and use an iron.
You will receive a link to the zoom call within 48 hours of the first day of camp.
I'm excited to meet you! See you in class!
