I believe that a well-lived life has beautiful objects in it that bring joy and define an individual's personal aesthetic. It is my calling to make such objects.

Terina Nicole is a New Jersey native who creates beautiful, bold statement pieces for art & design lovers. She is the designer and founder of Jypsea Leathergoods, a line of luxe leather home goods, handbags & jewelry made primarily of recycled skins.

She is also the author of

ENVISION: The Young Accessory Designer's Guide to Collection Development, the founder of the Independent Designer Showcase and co-founder of DIYMakersCon, a conference for creative women makers.

Her most recent and proudest venture is The Fashion Design Center of South Jersey, which she founded to make design education available to Camden residents.

As a Design Instructor, nothing makes her heart leap for joy more than helping others find their own creative voice so that they too can live a life that they're passionate about.

  • 1999. Began working in the corporate fashion industry in NYC as a technical designer for several footwear brands and clothing manufacturers while attending school at FIT nights & weekends.

  • 2001. Opened PYT, a vintage boutique in North Brunswick, NJ while still in school.

  • Jypsea Leathergoods, was launched in 2001 briefly. Was picked up by 3 stores and featured in Upscale Magazine before she closed it to focus on completing her degree.

  • Earned her degree in Accessory Design in NYC from the world-renown Fashion Institute of Technology in 2004, graduating Cum Laude. Gave birth to her daughter 2 weeks after graduation. Took 3 years off to be a mom and wife and launched a home-based line of spa products which sold in a dozen stores before she sold the company and went back to Corporate America.

  • In 2008 during the financial collapse, she left the corporate design world after a series of companies she worked for went under. She gathered the works from 30 independent artists/artisans from around the country and established Down To Earth Boutique & Gallery in Suffolk, VA with her mom and brothers.

  • Also, relaunched Jypsea Leathergoods in 2008. The line has been sold in boutiques, art galleries, and pop-up shops throughout the country.

  • Since leaving corporate America, she has freelanced as a designer for many startup/indie fashion brands, taught fashion design throughout NJ, PA and NYC, published a book and dozens of articles as a freelance writer for many art/fashion publications. She has also co-founded a creative conference, a fashion design makerspace and other design-related ventures as a mompreneur of 2.

  • Committing to growing as a creative, she earned a BA in Art from Thomas Edison State College in 2011 and a Masters in Art with a focus on Design & Craft from NJCU in 2015. She now knows how to do a little of every thing from shoe making, ceramics, packaging design, metalsmithing and furniture making! As a designer, she desires to bring a sense of luxury and history to the products she designs by combining the exotic with the discarded, upcycling to give a new life to old objects while helping to reduce waste. Because she never knows what she will find, Terina must rely on her vast knowledge of crafting,  and her eclectic creativity to make each one-of-a-kind/limited quantity items as unique as it's end user.
