Who's That Girl? Anjelica Hill

Every since my current collection, Refined Eclecticism, was released last fall people have been asking, "Who is the new face of Jypsea Leathergoods??!! She is BEAUTIFUL." Beautiful she is but Anjelica Hill, or Jeli as she is affectionately called by her those of us who know and love her, is so much more than beautiful. For as long as I've known her she has been doing pretty phenomenal things.

Jeli and I are practically family but for those who don't know this brilliant young lady, here is an introduction:

Me: Anjelica, I am astonished by all that you have done over the years to support women. Fundraising for women in transition back to the workforce, taking young girls on field trips, and now your blog, Women on The Grind which supports and uplift women. Why is this so important to you?

Anjelica: Empowering young women is important to me because we are a lot stronger and way more valuable than we know and are taught. Society tells us to aspire to be married, to become mothers, or to secure that “dream job,” (and while those are all great things) we are not always encouraged to learn more about ourselves and the things that we thoroughly enjoy. I think that it is important to take time out to explore different things, to travel, and to meet new people as these are all things that help us to further discover who we truly are. I also feel like there are not enough positive images of hard-working women being shown and their stories being shared. There are tons of great examples, but they are not always publicized as much as they should be. I make it my mission to expose young ladies to more positivity because by seeing this, I believe that it can ultimately boost their confidence and self esteem. They may see a woman similar to them doing something that they love to do and it may spark something in them to believe that, “If she can do it, so can I.”

Me: At Hampton University, what was your major? Did you always know you wanted to give back in the ways that you do?

Anjelica: I studied Marketing and Entrepreneurship at Hampton University. I always knew that I wanted to give back and I have always mentored youth. My mom told me for as long as I could remember that it was my duty to give back and to serve in my community in some type of capacity. A village truly raised me. A lot of people poured into my life and saw my potential to be great so I try to pay it forward and do the same for other young people.

Me: What are you ultimate goals for your work and how can others get involved? How can people find you online and support your mission?

Anjelica: One of my favorite quotes is, “I am not saying that I am going to rule or change the world, but I guarantee that I will spark the brain of someone that will change the world.” --Tupac Shakur
